ABOUT JG STOCKTON

JG Stockton is the artist name for James Stockton, who was born in Sheffield, the City of Steel.

He has enjoyed listening to music since a very young age but never considered making music until starting a Media course at 16.

It came from his tutors suggesting to the class that they try using Garageband to put together sound design for the short films they were making.

He got very engrossed in recording midi and putting together short tracks of random notes he’d played in. He would then export these files and put them into Audacity to slow down and add other effects to.

One of JG Stockton’s interests is hearing sounds pan left to right, similar to what the late Susumu Yokota would do which is now also comparable to the more recent phenomenon that is ASMR.

Another signifier of his music is how important melody is to even his most aggressive dance floor tracks. Melody is generally the starting point of his creative process and he feels that if the melody doesn’t work then the rest of the track won’t either.

JG Stockton has collaborated with multiple artists including: Sieben, Socool, Rachel E, Creola, Jake Does Audio as well as creating music as AJ&JG which is a collaboration between James and his dad.

Currently he is working on Xylophonics, an album that on every track has a Xylophone or Xylophonic instrument added to it.
